Religious Influence and Pan-African Spirituality

Dear Editor,

Norman E Cameron, Queen’s College mathematics master and UG professor authored 150 Years of Education in Guyana (1808 – 1957). In it he wrote, “The London Missionary Society started its work in the country with the pioneer missionary, Rev John Wray, in 1808. From the outset this remarkable pioneer had a clear conception of the nature of his mission. He must preach the gospel to all, and make converts to the precepts and practices. He must educate them both adults and children for the work to spread rapidly. He must have a band of catechists, deacons, teachers trained from among the people.”

In 1808, the mental enslavement of the barbaric with European religious values began. Right now in India, the Adivasi tribe who worship the spirits in water, in trees, in plants is regarded by Prime Minister Modi as barbaric, The Prime Minister of India has a new project with temples and Lord Ram to convert the Adivasi peoples to be Hindus which he regards as real religion. In 2024, the Pan-African Movement (Guyana Branch) had several meetings in which the spiritualism in Pan-Africa was questioned. This question was triggered because of the political revolution in progress in Sahel Africa (Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Chad) and the spirit that can destroy that political revolution.

The real religion for Africa and Pan-Africa should be Tewahedo religion. This is the religion of one nature (one spirit) in water, in plants, in humans, in sunshine. Long life. Tewahedo is practiced in Ethiopia, in Eretria, In Chad, in Democratic Republic of Congo. With this in mind, Pan-African Movement (Guyana Branch) will be commemorating Timkat on Sunday 19th at its lease between Albert an Oronoque Streets by baptismal blessing of the canals, trees, humans and all vegetation. Psalms 1 and a significant speech by HIM Haile Selassie will be read. Rastas and Pan-Africans will commemorate.

Sincerely,

Tom Dalgety
